On September 11th, 2006, it will have been five years since terrorist attacks brought down the Twin Towers, burned the Pentagon, killed and injured thousands, and eventually launched the “War on Terrorism.”
Many people are remembering where they were when they heard the news that day. And, after news this summer of an alleged terrorist plot to blow up US airliners, and new videos from Osama Bin Laden’s deputies, maybe they’re wondering what Al Qaeda is planning next. Austinite Lawrence Wright tells KUT’s Jennifer Stayton he was writing for The New Yorker magazine when he started a book chronicling Al Qaeda’s history – one that started long before nine-eleven.
