KUT is now broadcasting using HD Radio technology! We’re the first public broadcaster in Central Texas to bring you multiple channels of digital radio. Read all about it in the official press release.
HD Radio is a proprietary technology developed by the iBiquity Corporation. It allows KUT to broadcast several channels on the same frequency—90.5 FM.
Think of HD Radio as the “stations between the stations.”
Using a special radio, listeners can tune into all of our channels – currently KUT and KUT2 – for free. Unlike XM or Sirius, there is no monthly fee with HD Radio. Best of all, HD Radios can tune in to both the new digital channels and the same great analog radio you’ve been listening to all along.
In some cases, HD Radio will sound better than normal analog FM radio, but the real advantage is our ability to bring you more great programs from NPR, PRI, APM, and the BBC. In addition, we now have more room for local music programming; later in 2007, KUT will introduce an all-music channel: KUT3.
To listen online, you don’t need anything new—just your current computer.
If you want to join the HD revolution, you’ll need an HD Radio. A list of radios is available at the HD Radio Web site. There are no set-up or monthly fees of any kind.
HD Radio doesn’t travel as far as analog radio. While we’re still taking measurements, you can see an estimated map of the area we expect our HD Radio signal to cover.
KUT is planning three stations, two of which are on the air today: KUT and KUT2.
KUT is the same station you hear today over your existing radio, only in higher fidelity.
KUT2 is our 24/7 all-news and information station, featured the best programming from NPR, PRI, APM, and BBC News. Check out the KUT2 schedule.
KUT3 will be our all-music station, built around your favorite local hosts like John Aeilli and Paul Ray.
No. You’ll still be able to hear KUT at 90.5 FM. However, your old analog radio will not pick up KUT2 or KUT3.
