An open forum was held at the University of Texas to inspire ideas for the artists who will create a statue to honor former Texas senator and UT professor Barbara Jordan.
Jordan was the first African-American state senator in Texas since Reconstruction. She was also the first woman and first African-American to deliver the keynote address to the Democratic National Convention. And now, she will be the first woman to be honored with a statue on the University of Texas campus.
