Blanton Museum of Art Volunteer Mission:

The Blanton Museum seeks to connect a variety of audiences with art and ideas. We provide several ways for volunteers to assist visitors at the museum and help them have an interesting and engaging visit to the museum. Whether during a regular weekly shift or at special events throughout the year, volunteers help share the Blanton’s treasures with our community.

Who We Are: On the UT campus, the Blanton is the largest university art museum in the country. We have exhibits from our permanent collection on display at all times and rotating exhibitions of art from a variety of artistic disciplines that change about every six months. The Blanton provides tours to school children from Austin and the surrounding area, as well as guided docent tours for adults and families on a drop-in basis. We also provide a variety of lectures, concerts and other programs for the art-interested adult.

Community Service Volunteers: Part of our strategic mission is to be a gateway between UT and our surrounding community. Our community service volunteers provide the welcoming smile and engaging conversation that visitors seek when they come to the Blanton. Volunteers help provide a warm, friendly atmosphere which makes people feel welcome and less intimidated by art. Not to be confused with our docent and tour program, these volunteers do not give art tours. Their assistance is through general visitor service.

Volunteer Job Descriptions:

  • Articulate Volunteers” answer questions in the galleries about our collections
  • “Connections” Newsletter Volunteers: write articles, submit photos, assist with editing
  • Event Volunteers: work at B Scene parties (first Friday of each month) and other events
  • Family Volunteers: assist with art activities and programs during open houses for families

  • Information Volunteers: work a shift in Visitor Services giving directions and audio guides
