About the Show
Afropop Worldwide celebrates the music and culture that encompasses the African Diaspora. Hosted by Georges Collinet (a.k.a., Maxi Voom Voom), one of Africa’s best-loved broadcast personalities, the show and associated web site are dedicated to raising the profile of African music and ensuring that African, Caribbean, and Latin American artists reap the benefits of their talent and dedication to their craft.
About the Host
Georges Collinet, born in Cameroon, is one of the best-known and best-loved broadcasters on the African continent. Known to his fans as “Maxi Voom Voom,” Throughout his career, Collinet has played a key role in connecting the U.S., Europe, and Africa. He worked with African musicians in Paris during the ‘70s and early ‘80s, supporting their efforts to retain African roots in their music and to develop a distinctive, professional sound. He has hosted Afropop and Afropop Worldwide since 1988. Collinet most recently hosted the Kora All Africa Music Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa, televised to millions of viewers all across Africa, Europe and Asia. He is currently hosting and directing a television series filmed around the continent focusing on conflict resolution in Africa, and is also developing a television newsmagazine of news and features from Africa.
