MARKETPLACE

KUT: Weekdays 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

About the Show

What’s happening on Wall Street? When did old-fashioned “firing” become “downsizing?” And what motivates a 16-year-old grocery clerk in Illinois to invest in a stock portfolio? Marketplace breaks down the numbers without the hard edge of other financial news programs, providing insight into American financial trends. Tune in for hot stocks, investment opportunities, job markets, technology, the workplace, and the social side of business. With nationwide bureaus, Marketplace explains high finance with honesty, simplicity, and a human touch.

About the Hosts

Kai Ryssdal assumed the role of Marketplace host in August 2005; he was previously the host of the Marketplace Morning Report. Before joining Marketplace, Ryssdal was a reporter and substitute host for The California Report, a news and information program distributed to public radio stations throughout California by KQED-FM in San Francisco. His radio work has been honored with first place awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association and the national Public Radio News Directors Association.

After graduating from Emory University, Ryssdal spent eight years in the United States Navy, first flying from the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, and then as a Pentagon staff officer. Before his career in public radio, he was a member of the United States Foreign Service and served in Ottawa, Canada, and Beijing, China.
