This Week in Texas Music History is written and hosted by Gary Hartman, Director of the Center for Texas Music History at Texas State University in San Marcos. Hartman is the author of The History of Texas Music, co-editor of The Handbook of Texas Music, and editor of “The Journal of Texas Music History” among other publications. Hartman received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, and is considered one of the nation’s pre-eminent scholars on the subject of Texas music, with an emphasis on historic and ethnographic perspectives. Hartman is also an accomplished musician, having performed throughout the United States and Europe as guitarist and vocalist with The Texas Swing Kings.
The show airs every Monday morning during Morning Edition at 6:33 a.m. and again at 8:33 a.m., and is produced by Texas Music Matters’ Andrew Uhler.
