The Texas Education Agency released preliminary resultsfor the federal ratings of school districts today. Austin Independent School district did not meet federal standards, known as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). It is a federal designation as part of the No Child Left Behind program.
Austin ISD expected not to make federal standards because it missed targets in math for African American and Special Ed students. It also missed reading targets for African American, Special Ed and economically disadvantaged students. The district also administered more modified tests to special ed students than the federal standard allows for.
AISD did meet the standards for Hispanic students and the All Students group. Economically disadvantaged students scores improved over last year. So did the scores of students learning English as a second language. And for the first time since 2003, no district school is on the No Child Left Behind school improvement plan.
