Avoid Oltorf Between I-35 And East Side Drive This Weekend

Heads up from the City of Austin. You won't be able to drive west on Oltorf this weekend from I-35. You will be able to drive east but traffic could be slower than usual.  Here's the full release.

AUSTIN, TX – The City of Austin will be closing two westbound traffic lanes on Oltorf Street between IH-35 and East Side Drive starting 6:00 PM on Friday, January 28 through 6:00 AM on Monday, January 30, 2010 to make improvements to the Blunn Creek – Longbow storm drain systems.    East bound traffic will remain open during this time.  Drivers using this corridor should be aware of potential slow downs in the area, and allow plenty of time to reach their destinations. This lane closure will allow construction workers to make a connection to the existing water line located under the roadway on Oltorf. Alternate routes are recommended including East Side Drive and East Live Oak Street. The construction is part of the Blunn Creek – Longbow Storm Drain Improvements Project reducing local house, yard and street flooding in the neighborhood immediately to the north of St. Edward’s University. The neighborhood is bounded by Blunn Creek, St. Edward’s University, Congress Avenue and Oltorf Street.  The project includes the installation of curb inlets and piping systems to provide increased storm drain system capacity.
