About Us: Foundation Communities is a local, homegrown nonprofit. Since 1990, we’ve been providing affordable, attractive homes and free on-site support services for thousands of families with kids, as well as veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. We offer an innovative, proven model that empowers our residents and neighbors to achieve educational success, financial stability, and healthier lifestyles. We own and operate 22 communities all over Austin and in North Texas.
Get Involved: Our diverse group of nearly 3,000 volunteers breathe life into our mission every day by sharing their invaluable time, energy, skills and passion with our residents and neighbors. At Foundation Communities, there’s a volunteer opportunity for everyone.
We are currently recruiting volunteers for two of our most important programs: Insure Central Texas and the Community Tax Centers.
Insure Central Texas: As an Insure Central Texas volunteer, you’ll help families find peace of mind for the future by enrolling them in affordable health insurance. We’ll provide all the training you need. Volunteer trainings are held in September and October. This is an urgent volunteer need – Open Enrollment begins November 1 and will only last 6 weeks. That’s half the amount of time of previous enrollment seasons. We expect to serve over 6,000 people and we need volunteers. Community Tax Centers: We’re also gearing up for our 13th tax season. Our free Community Tax Centers provide tax preparation for families and individuals making $55,000 or less a year. We serve about 20,000 people annually and need about 650 volunteers to run our tax centers. You don’t need to have a financial background. We provide all the training you need. Volunteer trainings are held in December and January. As a tax center volunteer, you’ll be helping ensure low-income, hard-working families receive the tax refund they deserve.
