Houston Press Club Recognizes "Texas Standard" with Four Lone Star Awards

AUSTIN, Texas – June 18, 2018 – “Texas Standard,” the national daily news show of Texas, won four 2018 Lone Star Awards – including two first-place designations – from the Houston Press Club in recognition of outstanding achievements in journalism in Texas.

“Texas Standard” was recognized as the best Radio Talk Show. The show received first place in the category with the Dec 8, 2017, episode “Sexual Harassment at Texas Capitol” cited as an example of the excellent work produced by the show. While the award is shared by the entire “Texas Standard” team, special recognition for that episode goes to producer Jill Ament, host and managing editor David Brown, managing producer Rhonda Fanning, director Leah Scarpelli and technical director Casey Cheek.

The other Lone Star award-winning work includes:

Operation Longhorn, How One Texas Town Fell to Communist Rule in the 1950s,” reported by Michael Marks, won first place in the radio soft news feature category.

Blowback How Police Put Guns on the Street and Congress Hides What Happens to Them, reported by Alain Stephens, won second place in the radio hard news feature category.

Help Wanted/Get Out” a series about the history and current reality of immigrant labor in the United States, reported by Joy Diaz, won second place in the radio series category.
