KUT News story wins Barbara Jordan Media Award

AUSTIN, Texas — March 17, 2014 — A KUT News story about a legally blind man preparing to run the Boston marathon has won the radio category in the 31st Annual Barbara Jordan Media Award sponsored by the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities.

Reported by KUT News Editor Matt Largey, the story explores Austinite William Greer's preparation for his seventh marathon. The story was updated on April 15 to report on Greer's status after a pair of explosions five minutes after he crossed the finish line.

Winners were chosen by a panel of judges, including journalists, professionals in the field of disabilities and people with disabilities. The winners will be honored at the Barbara Jordan Media Awards Ceremony luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at Apogee Stadium on the University of North Texas campus in Denton.
