This weekend, Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportationare joining together for 'Texas Trash-Off', which is Texas's "largest single-day litter cleanup" event.

Volunteers across the state will work to remove litter from public areas, including parks, waterways and roads. In 2012, more than 80,000 volunteers collected about 7 million pounds of litter. Volunteers and groups can participate in the city or statewide

The event comes at a time when Keep Texas Beautiful is re-launching their "Don't Mess With Texas" campaign, which originally started in 1986.

Littering in Texas can result in a fine of up to $500. Repeat offenders face fines as high as $2,000.
