In a very narrow race, unofficial results indicate Travis County voters came out against the proposed $287 million bond to fund a new civil and family courthouse in downtown Austin. The numbers were a hair's breadth apart: 50.73 percent against and 49.27 percent in favor.

Early voters rejected the bond measure 52.71 percent to 47.29 percent. Election day voters, however, came out in favor of the bond: 50.39 percent voted for and 49.61 against. Ultimately, the 73,180 Travis County voters who turned out rejected the measure.

The courthouse bond, which had bipartisan support from the Travis County Commissioners Court, had gained some vocal opposition from City Council member Don Zimmerman and a group called the Travis County Taxpayers Union in recent weeks.
