Statesman.com is reporting that University of Texas Regents voted unanimously this morning allow the lease for a city-owned golf course in West Austin to expire in 2019.  One regent abstained from the vote.

The Lions' Municipal Golf Course--better known to some as "Muny"--opened over 85 years ago.  It sits on the Brackenridge Tract, a 350-acre plot near Lady Bird Lake that currently houses the course and a university field lab.

An advisory group recommended that UT redevelop the area, creating a mixed-use development.  Golf course supporters lobbied to keep the course open, recommending most recently a partnership with cities, counties and hospital districts to create a medical school campus on the tract.
