Meeting Tonight to Help Plot Future of Holly Power Plant

City officials are looking for the public's help in deciding what to do with the land around the Holly Power Plant in East Austin, which is scheduled to be fully decommissioned by later this year.

Currently, plans have designated the 9.3 acres of surrounding land to be handed over to the Austin Parks & Recreation Department for development into a park.

Parks & Recreation has enlisted the help of a master planner to help them develop a plan. Now the master planner wants the help of the Austin community to approve the park plan.

“The presentation of these preliminary concepts is the next important step in the master plan process,” says Chris Yanez, principal planner for the Parks and Recreation Department.

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a community workshop for the Holly Shores/Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Metz Elementary School Cafeteria.

The workshop will present and solicit community input on preliminary park concepts.
