Broken Fire Hydrant Causes Water, Lane Shutdown

twitter.com/AustinWater

Austin Water Utility crews have shut off water in the area of a broken fire hydrant. So water is no longer gushing out.

The utility tweeted this picture of the damaged hydrant this morning.

Austin Water Utility spokesperson Jason Hill says the water shutdown is not affecting any customers in the area.

Repair crews are blocking one lane of the northbound frontage road of U.S. 183 near Lake Creek Parkway. The utility isn't sure how long the repair will take. They expect the job could cause some slight traffic trouble for drivers.

Crews did not indicate how the hydrant was damaged.
