How about farm fresh eggs without leaving your yard?
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., it’s the Funky Chicken Coop Tour, the fifth annual tour of local neighborhood chicken dwellings in Austin.
Michelle Hernandez, founder of the tour, said the purpose of the tour is to encourage city folks to raise chickens at home or in their neighborhoods.
“The chicken not only provides you eggs and food or meat if you need it, they are also a form of entertainment," Hernandez said. "They are lovely to watch scratch in the yard or chase each other for a bug or anything of that nature.”
Tickets for the Funky Chicken Coop Tour are available at Buck Moore Feed and Supply and the Callahan’s General Store.
The tickets cost $10, but there’s a free pre-tour class on raising poultry at Buck Moore Feed and Supply Saturday morning at 8:30.
