Packaging-Free Grocery Store Announces Location

Has an Austin grocery store ever received this much hype before it has enough money to open a single location? Perhaps it’s the packaging-free premise explained in this catchy video, or maybe it’s the lack of healthy grocery options in East Austin, but in.gredients has attracted a lot of media attention.

Now here’s some more: in.gredients has announced a location for its yet-to-exist store. It's going to be at 2610 Manor Road.As noted on the in.gredients blog, “Being close to Austin’s food desert – where corner stores selling highly-processed food are sometimes used as grocery stores – helped determine our location.”

But the fledgling company says it is still seeking $15,000 in donations to start the business. According to a recent interview, however, your donation may not actually put a shelf in the storefront.

“We’re focusing the $15,000 raised on IndieGoGo towards actual engagement such as gardening groups, lessons on water harvesting/capturing and in-the-field demonstrations,” co-founder Christian Lane told the Austinist.
