Austin Public Health leaders gave their weekly COVID-19 update Wednesday morning. The virtual briefing with members of the media came a day before Thanksgiving, as public health officials warn Austinites to stay home for the holiday and avoid gatherings.

"We've seen families that were devastated by gatherings after Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and we don't want to see that same thing happen after Thanksgiving as well," Austin Public Health Deputy Medical Director Dr. Jason Pickett said Tuesday.

Austin-Travis County Alternate Health Authority Dr. Jason Pickett, APH Director Stephanie Hayden and APH Chief Epidemiologist Janet Pichette spoke during Wednesday’s news conference.
