Most of the rivers and creeks engorged by Friday's heavy rainfall have reached their highest points and have started to recede. As they do, the residents of hard-hit places, like San Marcos, Bastrop County and Austin's Onion Creek neighborhood, are starting the process of cleaning up and assessing the damage.
Though the rescue efforts are over, and many donation centers are no longer accepting donated material goods, there are still ways you can help, whether it's by donating money, or making yourself available to volunteer, or bringing in clean clothes for those who lost their belongings. If you're a resident looking for help removing damaged goods or receiving donations, there's information for you as well.
Bastrop County
- The Bastrop County Long-Term Recovery Team is providing residents with cleaning supplies for post-flood recovery as needed. Those who sustained damage to homes or property can register with the BCLTRT to receive more help in removing damaged contents and cleaning damaged homes. Hays County
- Hays County requests help in the form of financial donations. The Blanco River Regional Recovery Team is asking those who'd like to donate to do so either by check or money order made out to The Blanco River Regional Recovery Team, and sent to The Blanco River Regional Recovery Team, P.O. Box 685, San Marcos TX 78667. People can also designate donations at any Wells Fargo Bank branch to the BR3T if they speak to a teller.
- Hays County residents can drop off waste and recyclables Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. either at 1691 Carney Lane (512-618-7175) or 100 Darden Hill Lane in Driftwood (512-858-9515). Travis County
- In Austin, the city's code department has assessed the damage incurred at more than 400 properties, 10 of which were deemed too dangerous for residents to return to them.
- Volunteers are currently needed to staff theHope Family Thrift Store in Austin. Other volunteer opportunities are currently being identified as damage is assessed.
Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) is accepting donated goods at a mobile trailer located at Teri Road Baptist Church (1844 Teri Road, Austin Texas 78744). The ADRN will accept donations at this location Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. They're looking for gently used clothing and linens; for more information, look here.
