Where will you go this Museum Day?

Sunday, September 22, the Austin Museum Partnership has coordinated a day of free museum admission for Austinites. More than forty Austin-area museums will be participating, many with extended hours and special events. Highlights include:

  • The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center features guided garden tours, children’s storytime, indoor craft fun and outdoor activities. Plant experts will also be giving talks about how different plant scents affect moods and motivation. There will also be wildflower seeding demonstrations and children’s book signings.
  • Family Fossil Fun Day at the Texas Memorial Museum. Museum experts host plenty of fossil-filled fun, including hands-on presentations from paleontologists, a fossil dig pit, storytime and paleo-themed crafts and activities. “We do have daily free admissions, so we have to go a little above and beyond just free admission,” says Pamela Owen, senior biodiversity educator at the museum. “It will be a family-friendly celebration of fossils.”
  • Tiny Park art space will feature an exhibit opening of Joseph Noderer and Jamie Panzer. The eastside art space was founded in 2011 and features contemporary art exhibitions, readings, performances, and film screenings by local and national artists.
