In Black America Podcast: CocoaFab.com

Cocoa Media Group
Angela Burt-Murray

On this edition of In Black America, producer/host John L. Hanson Jr. speaks with Angela Burt-Murray editorial director of Cocoa Media Group, a new digital media company that launched CocoaFab.com and CocoaFab.TV to feature entertainment, style and original web series for young women of color.

Prior to launching CMG, she was the editor-in-chief of ESSENCE magazine, where she oversaw the editorial direction for ESSENCE magazine—the premier lifestyle, news, fashion and beauty magazine for African-American women—as well as Essence.com—the leading daily online destination to serve that audience.

Burt-Murray most recently served as executive editor of TEEN PEOPLE. In this role, she helped execute the magazine’s editorial mission, managed the staff, top edited its entertainment and real life departments and managed the title’s budget. With a keen eye for what’s next, strong story judgment and boundless creativity, she conceived some of TEEN PEOPLE’s most important features, including the premier franchise platform Young Hollywood, The Teen People Annual Sex Survey and popular new departments. In April 2003, she joined TEEN PEOPLE as features director and was assistant managing editor before being promoted to executive editor in October 2003.

Burt-Murray is the co-author, along with Denene Millner and Mitzi Miller, of the critically acclaimed humor book, The Angry Black Woman’s Guide to Life, and the novel, The Vow.

John L. Hanson is the producer and host of the nationally syndicated radio series In Black America. It’s heard on home station KUT at 10 p.m. Tuesdays and 6:30 a.m. Sundays — and weekly on close to 20 stations across the country. The weekly podcast of IBA, the only nationally broadcast Black-oriented public affairs radio program, is one of KUT’s most popular podcasts.
