April is National Poetry Month, a time when we celebrate poetry and recognize how it has shaped American culture. This year, KUT is participating in National Poetry Month by sharing poems written by students in the Blank Page creative writing programs at Kealing and Fulmore Middle Schools and the Writers' Workshop at Rawson Saunders School. You can read the and listen to the poems here, and you can also listen to the poems read on KUT 90.5 FM throughout the month of April.

WATER

Read by Jason Neulander.

The hydrater-
Refreshing, cool or warm
Wonderful, powerful
Hear it rushing or trickling past you
splash, ripple or tap
Clear and mysterious

Stillness.
Rising
Falling
Freezing
Melting
Repeating, again and again-
An adventurous way to live

You can swim, ski or skate
Frozen or not, Cold or not
Memories of the beach or mountain

Floats through sky, drifting or waiting
Waiting to fall- Brave and strong

Its friends are waves, both protecting every creature
A life to live in or admire, like a bird
Sparkling, shining
Solid as ice

It allows you to be a writer, a reader, an artist,
someone with a mind
Thank the water, its thereness for you
