April is National Poetry Month, a time when we celebrate poetry and recognize how it has shaped American culture. This year, KUT is participating in National Poetry Month by sharing poems written by students in the Blank Page creative writing programs at Kealing and Fulmore Middle Schools and the Writers' Workshop at Rawson Saunders School. You can read the and listen to the poems here, and you can also listen to the poems read on KUT 90.5 FM throughout the month of April.

Chester

Read by Rabbi Neil Blumofe

A funny dog who loves his collar and rolling in rugs.

A funny dog who always hollers, “Ryyyowwwuggf!”

Chester.

A dog with fur the color of sour cream.

A good dog to lick your face when you’re sad.

A good dog to cuddle up near when you're alone or sick.

Chester.

And, well, sometimes he follows you into the bathroom.

And he might go in your room and eat a sock

He might wake you up because he thinks there’s a whale in the house.

After all he’s Chester

And, well, that’s all he needs to be

for me.
