Visit 'Greater Tuna' in Wimberley

'Greater Tuna' had its world premiere in Austin in 1981. In the 34 years since, the comedy (written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard) has remained an enduring favorite, spawning three sequels about the residents of Tuna, the "third smallest town in Texas."

The play's a real acting challenge, as the twenty or so characters are played by only two actors, who are both constantly either onstage or undergoing a fast costume change. And it's that challenge that made both R. Michael Clinkscales and Will Mercer want to take on 'Greater Tuna." Mercer remembers seeing the play as a young man years ago and knowing at the time that he wanted to someday play these characters.

This production runs through May 17 at Wimberley Playhouse, and is directed by Aaron Johnson.

Mike is the production director at KUT, where he’s been working since his days as an English major at the University of Texas. He produces and hosts This Is My Thing and Arts Eclectic, and also produces Get Involved and the Sonic ID project. When pressed to do so, he’ll write short paragraphs about himself in the third person, but usually prefers not to.
