Daily Buzz Co-Host John Wildman talks with Cannes Directors' Fortnight (Quizaine) winner, Turkish/French writer/director about her film, MUSTANG, Deniz Gamze Ergüven and actress, Güneş Nezihe Şensoy poolside at the Clarion Suites Hotel mid-week prior to winning at the 68th Edition of the Cannes Film Festival. First time filmmaker, Ergüven describes her inspiration for making the movie and why she wanted to tell the story of what it means to be a girl in Turkey today. Having spent time in various countries, she felt a restraint in Turkey she didn't experience elsewhere. Women are perceived through the filter of sexuality in Turkey. Şensoy, the youngest star of the film, shares about her experience on the film, how her relationships with the other actresses have evolved into real friendships and the sisterhood they're linked to. The film is set against a beautiful backdrop of a small coastal town in Turkey and centers on five young girls, all sisters, growing up in a restricted environment and society ruled by men.
