A Conversation with Dr. Stephen G. Peters

On this edition of In Black America, producer/host John L. Hanson Jr. speaks with Dr. Stephen G. Peters, founder of the nationally recognized Gentlemen's and Ladies Club programs, author, and superintendent-elect of the Laurens County School District 55 in South Carolina.

Peters has been a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal and director of secondary education. Most of his experiences have been in schools that made significant growth in short periods of time thus, resulting in both National and State Blue-Ribbon distinction.

Peters began his career as Health and Physical Education teacher in a K thru 8 school at St. Mary’s Academy in Norfolk, Virginia from 1982 until 1985. He developed the first intramural sports program at C. Alton Lindsey Middle School in Hampton, Virginia while teaching there from 1985 until 1991.

In 2002 he became an Educational Consultant, Facilitator and Speaker in schools from Virginia to Pennsylvania to Ohio and Illinois. From 2004 until 2015 he was CEO and President of the Peter’s Group.

John L. Hanson is the producer and host of the nationally syndicated radio series In Black America. It’s heard on home station KUT at 10 p.m. Tuesdays and 6:30 a.m. Sundays — and weekly on close to 20 stations across the country. The weekly podcast of IBA, the only nationally broadcast Black-oriented public affairs radio program, is one of KUT’s most popular podcasts.
