Earlier today, Governor Rick Perry spoke to the National Conference of State Legislatures' Legislative Summit in San Antonio, criticizing an "activist federal government."

"I stand ready to work with my fellow governors and legislators across this country to return power to the states, where it belongs," Perry said addressing the morning session of the summit.

Perry went onto explain that returning power to the states means, "Regaining control over our environmental and educational policies at the state level," and "stopping the runaway entitlement train that explodes state budgets without giving states any local control on programs like Medicaid."

Perry is expected to announce  his presidential candidacy this coming Saturday in South Carolina to a conference of conservative bloggers. KUT's Ben Philpott will be there to cover the announcement.
