Army Bases in Texas Going Green

Fort Hood and other Texas Army bases are working to become more energy efficient, according to an article in the Texas Tribune.

By 2020 the Central Texas base aims to reduce its waste to “netzero.” Brian Dosa, Fort Hood’s director of public works, believes it won’t be an easy task.

“It’s really as much about behavior change as it is about technology,” said Dosa. Recycling rates at soldiers’ housing complexes, for example, are low, he said.

In West Texas, Fort Bliss has pushed towards an eco-friendly facility as well. Throughout the base, solar panels have been installed to reduce the base’s energy and water usage. Earlier this year, the solar-panel system began producing power.

Austin Toros Battle for Championship

The Austin Toros cruised by the Los Angeles D-Fenders last night in game two of the NBA Development League Finals. The Toros – Texas’ D-League NBA team – triumphed in a 113 to 94 win. The two teams will now meet in a tie-breaker game Saturday in Los Angeles.

This is the first time the Toros have advanced to the league finals since the 2007-2008 season. If they win Saturday, it would be the first D-League championship in franchise history. The final game will begin at 9:30 p.m. You can stream the game online here.

In other Texas sports news, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, winner of the Heisman Trophy, was taken second overall in the NFL draft by the Washington Redskins.
