Austin Chronicle Announces Candidate Endorsements

When a newspaper endorses a candidate, does anybody care? It's a question that arises frequently in newsrooms around election time.

Governor Rick Perry didn't seem to think so. He didn't even try to secure endorsements, refusing to meet with newspaper editorial boards. His critics accuse him of trying to dodge tough questions. Perry told the AP earlier this month that it was just a waste of time.

"I mean, the way people get their information, who they listen to, etc. Put it all on the balance beam and the balance was toward not doing the editorial boards."

Perhaps not surprising then, that just about every newspaper in the state endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White.

Nevertheless, the Austin Chronicle came out with its list of endorsements today, just a few days after the Statesman released its list.

Here are endorsement lists from the other major newspapers across the state:

San Antonio Express-News

Dallas Morning News

Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Houston Chronicle
