The City of Austin just wrapped up a public comment period on the appointment of interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley as permanent chief. It's also holding a series of meetings about the upcoming budget and is in the middle of a public comment period on revised cemetery rules.
There are public meetings scheduled in the next few weeks on the Dougherty Arts Center Redevelopment Project; the Holly Shores/Edward Rendon Sr. Park Master Plan; and the Brush Square Master Plan.
"Austin suffers from terminal democracy," Austin Mayor Steve Adler tells KUT. "[That's] one of the reasons I so love this city."
He says not everyone in the community participates in the formal processes, though, so city staff is trying to meet people where they are to hear their opinions.
