The City of Austin is reminding people that an outdoor smoking and fire ban remains in effect. This after a blaze along southbound Mopac near the Barton Skyway exit yesterday. The threat of wildfires remains dangerously high in the drought-parched region.

Firefighters in Bastrop County continue work on a brush fire that started late yesterday afternoon and have burned more than 800 acres. A Bastrop County staffer said the fire was 45 percent contained as of this morning. The fire is mainly on the Texas Army National Guard’s Camp Swift property. Last night the fire grew to threatened a handful of homes but no one was hurt and no homes or buildings were destroyed.

Officials haven’t determined what started the fire.
