The Best Songs Ever ... This Week, Dec. 14, 2018

Members of Khruangbin pose for a photo after performing in KUTX's studio in March.

The staff at our sister station KUTX scour the earth to bring listeners the best music. Each Friday, they share three of their favorite songs on Morning Edition

"Real Tight' by Methyl Ethel

Methyl Ethel is an Australian band that makes art-pop in the grand tradition of David Bowie or Brian Eno. Their songs can be kind of fragmented, but "Real Tight" shows off a pop side. Maybe it’s something you’d throw on at your next weird dance party.

"I Know What It's Like" by Jeff Tweedy

Jeff Tweedy is a lot of things: singer, guitarist, frontman for Wilco, occasional actor on Portlandia and now author. He just released his autobiography Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back), and it is fantastic – funny, heartbreaking, heartfelt. Tweedy also has a new solo album called WARM that works as a perfect companion piece to the book. The songs are some of the most direct he’s ever written. Check out "I Know What It’s Like."

"Christmas Time Is Here" by Khruangbin

Finally, something seasonal from the Houston band Khruangbin. You wouldn’t think a psychedelic funk cover of a Charlie Brown Christmas classic would be necessary, but you’d be wrong. Listen to "Christmas Time Is Here," and here's hoping they play it at their sold-out show at Emo's tonight.
