Cedar Park Shifts Gears on Schlitterbahn Plan

Update: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that a proposed Schlitterbahn water park development would be reduced in size. While the new development would exclude the hotel and retail components included in a previous project, the water park would remain at 16-acres. The post has since been corrected.

A Schlitterbahn Water Park Resort planned for Cedar Park is no longer happening, but city officials hope they can strike a new deal that would retain the water park component.

Three years ago, Schlitterbahn announced plans for a $360 million resort that would be funded by Cedar Park Land LP, according to city officials. But funding for the first phase of construction fell through, and the deal with the city was canceled.

In a statement on its website, the City of Cedar Park says it anticipates that a $75 million Schlitterbahn water park would be built on a different 16-acre site, without the resort amenities of a hotel and retail.

"Although there is no update at this time, city officials continue to work on what would be one of the largest private investments in the city’s history, and hope to update the community soon."

"We are meeting and discussing the details in order to determine if there is an agreement to be had," says Phil Brewer, Cedar Park’s director of economic development.
