Higher Ed: Where Do Ideas Come From?

May 3, 2015

No doubt you've seen that iconic representation of the moment when a new idea is born. You know — the whole "lightbulb pops up over somebody's head" graphic. It's eye-catching for sure, but it turns out that's not actually how ideas come to us. In this week's episode of KUT's podcast Higher Ed, Jennifer Stayton and Southwestern University President Dr. Ed Burger discuss how ideas are formed and how they flow. Listen on to hear how it's more river than lightbulb.

Some adults may dread answering the inevitable question from a young person: "Where do babies come from?" In this episode, Ed and Jennifer explain that the question of where ideas come from is a much easier one to answer, and may challenge some of our long-held ideas about learning and education. They also introduce a new math puzzler that requires some math and reasoning skills. There's no drought of fun and information in this episode about the flow of ideas.
