Holiday Weekend Closures

While City of Austin administrative offices and other municipal facilities will be closed on the national holiday, many recreational areas run by the city will still be open on the Fourth of July.

Here is a list of closures and open facilities.

Closed for the Fourth of July (normal hours will resume on Tuesday, July 5):

  • City Council offices
  • Recreational and senior centers
  • City-run clinics
  • Cultural centers
  • Museums
  • Public libraries
  • Post offices
  • Zilker Botanical Garden
  • County offices
  • UT shuttles
  • MetroRail
  • Capital Metro administrative offices

Open on the Fourth:

  • Capital Metro with reduced service (Saturday schedule)
  • City of Austin aquatic facilities
  • Golf courses
  • Tennis courts
  • City parks (These are still under a temporary fire and smoking ban which includes fireworks and wood or charcoal burning grills. Propane stoves are allowed in designated areas.)
  • Town Lake Animal Center will be open July 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m
  • Capital Metro busses will run on a Saturday schedule

If you are a City of Austin Solid Waste Services customer you can expect the following to run as usual:

  • Garbage pick-up
  • Recycling
  • Yard trimming
  • brush and bulk collection
