Austin's redesigned bond website contains features that lets people see updates on projects around the city.

TheCity of Austin has launched a redesigned website that contains an interactive project map where users can see progress on projects.

Last year, Austin voters passed a $90 million transportation bond to pay for more bike paths, sidewalks, streets and trails with hopes of reducing commuters' reliance on cars. Visitors of the site can view status reports, photos of projects and project updates.

"We'd like to do this for any and all future bonds that may occur. We're really trying to increase the amount of transparency of these projects so it's not just voters going out and passing a bond package and not knowing what has happened with those projects, where they stand, where they're going," says John Nixon, marketing and communications consultant for the City of Austin. " It provides an easy to use interface where people can see what part of town they're interested in and find out what's happening."

Austin city officials are contemplating a general obligation bond election in 2012, much of which would also go toward transportation.

To view the interactive map you can visit the bond website here.
