New Pedestrian Path Opens along 183 Tollroad

Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority

A new pedestrian path has opened along a stretch of the 183A toll road, connecting Leander and Cedar Park. The five-mile, ten-foot-wide path cost $3.1 million dollars and opens in conjunction with the second phase of 183A construction.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is in charge of the project, and spokesman Steve Pustelnyk says the CTRMA hopes people will use the path for recreation and commuting to work.

"It’s something that in the past maybe we didn’t prioritized as much," Pustelnyk said.  "But these days bicycles and pedestrians is a critical part of any mobility project we do."

The path connects with a previous phase of the project, a 2.3-mile stretch that opened in 2011.

Eventually the Mobility Authority hopes to extend the path further north in Leander to the Capital Metro Leander Rail Station and to the South San Gabriel River.
