April is National Poetry Month, a time when we celebrate poetry and recognize how it has shaped American culture. This year, KUT is participating in National Poetry Month by sharing poems written by students in the Blank Page creative writing programs at Kealing and Fulmore Middle Schools and the Writers' Workshop at Rawson Saunders School. You can read the and listen to the poems here, and you can also listen to the poems read on KUT 90.5 FM throughout the month of April.

Pouting Lizards

Read by Dana Wheeler-Nicholson.

pouting lizards want to pout,
most definitely, without a doubt,
pouting lizards, want to pout.

swimming fish want to swim,
deep down, in the dim,
swimming fish just want to swim.

eating mice want to eat,
in the hole, by your feet,
eating mice just want to eat.

screeching birds just want to screech,
to annoy people on the beach,
screeching birds just want to screeech.

rolling pigs just want to roll,
in the mud without out the toll,
rolling pigs just want to roll.

reading people just want to read,
it’s their desire that they feed,
reading people just want to read.
