Folks living in San Marcos will have to be careful how they use water, because of persistent dry conditions.

The City of San Marcos says that, because aquifer levels has dropped below average, they're preparing to implement Stage 1 Water Restrictions.

Since Monday, the Edwards Aquifer’s level has dropped below 660 feet above sea level.  It now sits at 658.0 feet today. In response to potential drought, city officials are planning to impose restrictions on several common water usages, including lawn watering, car wash, pools and fountains.

San Marcos gets 20% of its water from the Edwards Aquifer and 80% from Canyon Lake.
