Saturday Afternoon: Flash Flood Warning in Effect for Parts of Central Texas

Update (7:36 p.m.): The flash flood warning has been extended until 10:15 p.m. by the National Weather Service because of thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall.

Areas under the advisory include Wimberley, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Austin, Pflugerville, Taylor, Round Rock, Granger, Georgetown and Cedar Park.

Update (5:05 p.m.): The National Weather Service has extended the flood advisoryfor eastern Travis County and eastern Williamson County until 7:00 p.m.

Update (2:40 p.m.): The National Weather Service has expanded and extended the urban and small stream flood advisory. It is now in effect for east central Travis County and eastern Williamson County until 4:15 p.m. The City of Austin has closed some lower water crossings because of heavy rains and street flooding this afternoon.

Update: The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warningin effect for Central Travis County until 4:15 this afternoon. A flash flood warning means flash flooding is occurring or is imminent in the warning area. The National Weather Service says the warning area could get between two and five inches of rain this afternoon.

Earlier: The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for parts of Central Texas for Saturday afternoon. The advisory covers northern Hays County and Travis County and remains in effect until 3:30 p.m. A Special Weather Statementfrom the National Weather Service also indicates a line of heavy thunderstorms will be moving through Central Texas until about 2:15 this afternoon.  Those storms could produce wind gusts up to 50 m.p.h. and dangerous lightning.

The National Weather Service says we can expect at least one to three inches of rain during the afternoon. Small creeks and streams could experience some minor flooding as the storm system moves through.
