Slim Turnout For AISD Facilities Hearing

Austin parents had a chance to sound off last night on proposed changes to the school district, such as partnering with IDEA Public Schools to launch charter programs in East Austin and sending 6th graders in north central Austin to their feeder middle schools in an attempt to ease overcrowding.

About 20 people spoke during the 45 minute public hearing, according to the Austin American-Statesman, and only two board members joined Superintendent Carstarphen to hear their concerns.

But KVUE reports all board members will receive a DVD of the meeting to review before they take a vote on the measures on December 12.  

You can read some specifics of what Austin ISD calls “Annual Academic Facilities Recommendations” or AAFRs on this post. Other proposals include expanding two-way dual language programs to four more schools and overhauling the district’s two disciplinary schools.
