StoryCorps MobileBooth: Share Your Story for Generations to Come

Jorge Sanhueza-Lyon
The StoryCorps MobileBooth returns to Austin in January 2018.

KUT 90.5 is bringing the StoryCorps Mobile Booth to Austin, Jan. 5 through Feb. 2, and you and a loved one are invited to record your story!

StoryCorps is a nonprofit project whose mission is to honor and celebrate the lives of everyday Americans by listening to their stories. StoryCorps’ MobileBooth — an Airstream trailer outfitted with a recording studio — will be parked in front of the Bob Bullock Museum. Reservations open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, and can be made by calling StoryCorps’ 24-hour toll-free reservation line at 1-800-850-4406 or visiting https://storycorps.org/reservations/. In the past, interview slots have filled up in a matter of minutes. Additional reservation slots will open at 10 am. on Saturday, Jan. 6.

StoryCorps’ MobileBooth interviews are conducted between two people who know and care about each other. A trained StoryCorps facilitator guides participants through the interview process. At the end of each 40-minute recording session, participants receive a complimentary CD copy of their interview. With participant permission, a second copy is archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, and millions listen to the weekly broadcasts on NPR’s “Morning Edition.” Visit Story Corps to hear sample interviews.

With participant permission, KUT 90.5 may air segments of some local interviews recorded in the StoryCorps MobileBooth. Segments of select interviews may air nationally on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” as well.

StoryCorps provides people of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share and preserve the stories of our lives. We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters.

KUT 90.5 thanks CapMetro and We Are Blood for their support of the StoryCorps MobileBooth Austin stop.
