Texas Soldier Killed in Afghan IED Attack

Andrew Krippner died May 23, 2011 from wounds sustained in an IED attack in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.

A Texas soldier died this week in Kunar Province, Afghanistan during in his first deployment overseas. Private Andrew M. Krippner was an infantryman from Garland, Texas. He was 20. A family friend told KUT he had enlisted in the Army last July. Krippner had been in Afghanistan for about a month and a half when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device. He and three other soldiers died of wounds they suffered in the attack. 

Krippner, an only child, leaves behind a mother and a father who is Pastor at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Garland. A message on the church’s website says they are planning a funeral for sometime next week.

The Department of Defense reports that as of May 26, 6018 U.S. service personnel have died in the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  536 were from Texas.
