Perry's Response Begins Saturday

Gov. Rick Perry will host  "The Response", a religious revival, in Houston tomorrow at the Reliant Stadium.  The seven hour long event will include a day of prayer and fasting for a "nation in crisis" along with several religious leaders in line to speak.NPR reportsthat "the event has touched off a holy war among critics, who claim it is Jesus-exclusive and political."

Sentencing Begins for Jeffs

The sentencing phase will begin in San Angelo today for polygamist religious leader Warren Jeffs. He was convicted Thursday of sexually assaulting two underage girls. Jeffs had more than 70 wives, two dozen of whom were under 17, according to prosecutors. Jeffs could potentially face life in prison.

Heat Warning For Rest of Week

The heat advisory is still in effect until Sunday at midnight for South Central Texas. According to the National Weather Service, heat indices for the afternoon and early evening will rise to or exceed 105 degrees through out the weekend.  Public officials are asking people to take extra precaution while outside.
