Former TYC Administrator Headed for Trial
Jury selection is expected to start today in Lubbock for a former Texas Youth Commission official accused of sexually molesting teenage inmates. John Paul Hernandez was the principal at the West Texas State School in Pyote. The Associated Press reports Hernandez pleaded not guilty. His trial comes six years after the investigation began into sex abuse at the TYC.
Texas Education Budget Cuts Back in the Spotlight Today
The Senate Finance Committee is holding a public hearingat 10 a.m. on the education part of the Senate’s proposed budget. It would cut education spending by more than $9 billion for 2012-2013. The panel will start today by looking at funding for the Texas Education Agency, the School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the School for the Deaf.
Three Fans Arrested at Super Bowl
Many of you might be recovering from yesterday's Super Bowl parties. Cowboys Stadium was jam packed for the game. While everything seemed pretty tame, the Associated Press reports three people did leave in handcuffs. Arlington Police say two people were arrested for public drunkenness and a third person was arrested for theft. The three didn't get to see the Packers beat the Steelers, 31-25; they were all arrested in the first quarter.

As the front arrives early Wednesday, rain could transition into freezing rain/drizzle then to sleet and, ultimately, an icy flurry mix before all precip exits Wednesday afternoon. Overall accumulations look much less than last week, though dangerous ice may again occur on bridges and roadways, making travel treacherous. Please plan ahead to be off the roads during this winter weather transition early Wednesday. In addition to the ice threat, it's going to be windy with "feels like" or wind chill temps dropping to the teens.
