Parts of Deficit Reduction Talks Break Down

U-S House Speaker John Boehner says he cannot rally support among his colleagues for a major deal on deficit reduction. The sticking point: talk of tax increases. Talks at the White House scheduled for today reportedly will still happen, with the emphasis now on dealing with the federal debt ceiling.

7.0 Quake Hits Off Northern Coast of Japan

Aftershocks following a major earthquake are  not uncommon, and Japan was hit by a major one Sunday. CNN reports there were no immediate indications of injuries or major damage following Sunday's quake. A tsunami warning was posted but then canceled. Japan is still recovering from March 11th's 9.0 magnitude quake and tsunami.

Atlantis Commander Chris Ferguson is getting ready to guide Atlantis for a docking with the Space Station Sunday morning during the final mission of the United States' space shuttle program.

Back here on Earth, the Austin American-Statesman is reporting Sunday morning on Governor Rick Perry's record on education compared with that of former Governor and President George W. Bush. Still no official word from the Perry camp about a possible run for the GOP Presidential nomination in 2012.

U-S Wins Davis Cup Doubles in Austin Saturday

The Bryan Brothers doubles team - Bob and Mike -beat the Spanish team of Marcel Granollers and Fernando Verdasco Saturday to close the gap at the Davis Cup quarterfinals to 2-1, with Spain in the lead. The reverse singles matches from Friday will talk place today at the Frank Erwin Center, including Austinite Andy Roddick taking on Feliciano Lopez.

Sunday Weather Forecast

Good thing they're not playing those Davis Cup matches outside. The weather forecast for Central Texas is calling for Sunday high temps near 95, though the heat index will make it feel closer to 99, and there is a about a 20% chance of rain.
