VY is on the move in the NFL

Former Longhorn quarterback, and architect of UT’s most recent National Championship season, has reportedly inked a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to multiple sources.  The two sides will announce the news later today.

Young was cut by the Tennessee Titans yesterday, after a tumultuous 2010 season.  A low point for Young came in week 11, when he was benched (after suffering an injury) and reacted to the news by throwing half of his uniform into the stands (Young was subsequently removed from the starting quarterback role and informed that he would either be traded or cut before the start of the 2011 season).

The Titans drafted Young with the third pick in the 2006 NFL draft, and started his career with a bang - winning the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year.  His record as a starting quarterback remains solid (at 30-18), but critics are quick to point out that Young is 13-14 against teams with a better-than-.500 record.  Over the last couple of years, questions about his work ethic and mental toughness emerged.

In Philadelphia, Young will serve as backup quarterback to Michael Vick.  Vick came back from a 21-month prison sentence for dog fighting in 2009 and was named the AP and Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year for his 2010 campaign with the Eagles.

The move is sure to be a thorn in the side of many Longhorn fans that double as Dallas Cowboys loyalists in their NFL-cheering lives.  The Eagles have long been the archrivals of the Cowboys, thus cheering for Young and the Cowboys this season could prove a difficult assignment.
