Today was college football’s nationwide signing day. All 11 expected Longhorn recruits signed letters of intent to play at UT, Coach Mack Brown said at an afternoon news conference. Those players, along with four who enrolled midyear, make up this year’s recruiting class of 15 new players.
“Somewhat lackluster” is how Geoff Ketchum, who runs the fan site OrangeBloods, describes this year’s class. He says the team added some big, strong players in the offensive line and signed some defensive backs, but the program’s diminished status has hurt recruiting efforts.
“For so long, other schools feared Texas having their Junior Day because all you could do no matter who you were, whether you were Alabama, A&M, Oklahoma, whatever, you had to sit back and wait and watch and see who Texas is going to take off the board,” Ketchum said. “Those days, at least currently, are over.”
Ketchum says Brown should have recruited more running backs and pass rushers, in particular.
